POSITION TITLE: PLANT ENGINEER

INDUSTRY: FOOD AND BEVERAGE

LOCATION: WISCONSIN

DESCRIPTION:

As a Plant Engineer you will develop and manage plant capital improvement projects to maintain and/or improve overall plant performance. Be responsible for planning, developing, organizing, and providing effective leadership in the repair and maintenance of plant facilities and equipment. Manage and provide leadership for all plant maintenance and project activities. Provide liaison and support to plant operations, the engineering group, and other technical support areas

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop, implement and manage plant tactical and capital improvement projects to maintain and/or improve overall plant performance, product quality and cost efficiencies
  • Lead and manage maintenance activities and improvement projects in support of plant operational needs and goals
  • Supervise the continuous improvement/optimization of the cheese and whey processes, with a focus on a PM based structure and down time minimization
  • Collaborate with production departments to resolve issues concerning facilities and equipment
  • Coordinate and direct activities of Associates engaged in general and preventative maintenance and ensure compliance with federal, state and local codes
  • Design and layout plant preventative maintenance repair work
  • Manage annual plant maintenance budget, participate in the capital planning process, identify opportunities to improve and provide cost effect solutions
  • Responsible for identifying and managing outside vendors participating in buildings/grounds maintenance
  • Responsible for compiling and maintaining information on plant facilities and obtaining and maintaining appropriate permits (annual boiler inspections, back flow preventers)
  • Develop and implement plant maintenance and safety training programs
  • Serve as liaison on projects, facility and equipment review with regulatory agencies
  • Orchestrate plant shutdown projects and key maintenance initiatives
  • Ensure 24/7 plant maintenance coverage and support
  • Plan, develop, organize, manage and provide the repair and maintenance of plant facilities, equipment and projects
  • Responsible for the scope, logistics and execution of minor capital projects for the Juda facility
  • Develop, design and prepare capital requests and justifications for improvement projects
  • Develop plans and specifications, write requests for quotations and evaluate bids
  • Provide technical input, support and/or engineering design and evaluation of facility and improvement projects
  • Develop, manage and oversee project schedules, fabrication, construction, budget and goals within approved limits
  • Accountable for integration of larger capital projects, through liaison and interaction with the corporate engineering group and the Juda facility
  • Serve as liaison and support to plant operations, engineering and other technical support areas
  • Responsible for the purchasing and control inventory of equipment and parts in conjunction with centralized purchasing, utilizing a CMMS such as MPX
  • Responsible for providing, controlling and maximizing performance of budgets for maintenance resources and spare parts
  • Control and manage plant breakdown time and system efficiencies
  • Supervise 1-3 leaders in the Maintenance department

REQUIREMENTS:

  • BS. Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology with a Facilities concentration
  • Minimum of 8 years engineering experience with a minimum of 5 years in a food manufacturing/processing plant combined with a minimum of 5 years experience in project and supervisory management
  • Knowledge of all phases of dairy plant buildings/equipment and related construction/project costs
  • Knowledge and experience with facility and process design
  • Knowledge and experience with OSHA and environmental regulations, building, electrical, plumbing, civil and mechanical codes and standards
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills are essential, and experience with projects in excess of $500K
  • Communicate professionally and effectively with all levels of Associates fielding questions/complaints from managers, Associates, vendors, suppliers and governmental agencies
