POSITION TITLE: SENIOR PROJECT MANAGER
INDUSTRY: INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY
LOCATION: MILWAUKEE, WIL
DESCRIPTION:
The senior project manager leads project teams, participates on strategic corporate initiatives and ensures the successful completion of related projects, including integration within the business unit and complete transition to operational support. In addition, the Senior Project Manager instructs other employees on project management techniques and principles, and collaborates with other project participants from across the company.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Independently manage multiple projects of large scale, high risk, and complexity.
• Participate as a project manager, team leader, coach or consultant.
• Organize and lead cross functional project teams.
• Utilize "corporate standard" project management tools and methodologies throughout all phases of projects.
• Develop plans for completing project deliverables, including scheduling and coordinating activities of project team members
• Communicate with appropriate parties to successfully influence project scope, design, or outcomes and to complete assignments successfully.
• Facilitate and/or initiate post-implementation project reviews; document best practices and lessons learned for project archives.
• Teach others to use detailed project management tools and principles.
2. ANALYSIS/SOLUTION GENERATION:
• Identify likely causes of problems and determine appropriate solutions, weighing advantages and disadvantages of each. Systematically break down complex issues into manageable parts.
• Decide appropriate actions based on an understanding of potential increase to business profit, productivity, return on investment, support for company strategic objectives or other project drivers.
• Obtain and apply knowledge of industry best practices when generating solutions.
3. PROCESS ENGINEERING:
• Identify opportunities to improve multiple business areas' productivity
• Employ creative approaches in managing design and implementation challenges
• Consider cross-functional, division, and organizational implications before making decisions that impact workflows.
• Use both technical expertise and business knowledge to initiate needed change across Fortis Health business units.
• Develop and implement metrics and measures for new processes and applications.
• Teach BSI and other unit staff to use process re-engineering approaches and techniques.
4. REQUIREMENTS DEFINITION:
• Lead cross-functional team sessions to define requirements.
• Provide thought-leadership in analysis and solution definition.
• Manage adjustments to documented requirements through effective application of change control processes and tools.
5. TESTING, DEBUGGING, TEST MANAGEMENT, QUALITY ASSURANCE
• Work with Business Units to monitor team test results, ensuring all results meet established tolerance.
• Review/Finalize test plans for unit/acceptance testing for large scale projects.
6. TECHNICAL EXPERTISE AND PRODUCTION SUPPORT.
• Ensure timely implementation of standards for unit operations and initiatives.
• Utilize project management software and tools to manage projects.
7. COMMUNICATION
• Communicate to executive level management through presentations, meeting facilitation, one-on-one meetings, status reports and other written and oral communications when needed
• Escalate issues and risks to stakeholders and executive management in a timely and appropriate manner
• Handle difficult personnel situations directly, using appropriate discretion, HR advice and respect for the individual
REQUIREMENTS:
· Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or related field preferred, and 4-5 years project management experience.
· Health insurance background preferred
· Excellent communication skills
· Strong knowledge of a variety of project management applications such as Microsoft Project, Microsoft Office, Visio.
· Demonstrated experience in leading large projects (10,000+ hours)
Demonstrated experience utilizing project plans, issues logs, risk/mitigation strategies, cost/benefit analysis tools
